Background

An entrepreneur, Timothy Yu is a young, hungry and passionate chef who learned in various different kitchens in his 10+ years. Born in a Cantonese Chinese household, his parents opened a small mom and pop restaurant in 1996 in downtown Wheaton, MD. Learning at a young age how to run a business, he fell in love with the techniques and skills found throughout the kitchen. Fast-forward to 2008, when it all began at the prime age of 16; Timothy started working and learning from the current and long time head chef of Hollywood East Café. Throughout his college career, he has worked and staged at various different places including Addie’s Park Potomac, ChiKo DC, the source by Wolfgang Puck, and most recently minibar by José Andrés. He studied at the University of Maryland receiving his Bachelors of Arts in Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2018.

Learning from a masterful team at Hollywood East Café, Timothy is trained as a Hong Kong style chef. Holding strong to tradition, Timothy is dedicated to his roots, but shows the creativity of mastering all tastes and techniques he has learned in his years in the culinary field. Learning much from his mentors, he has learned Asian fusion, Molecular Gastronomy, American and French cooking.
